Two students of the Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma, were Monday shot by security agents following their protest over the increment of their school fees by the university management.
Nigeriatatafo gathered that the increment affected majorly 200 level and new students as their fees were increased from about N45,000 to N160,000.
It was gathered that the peaceful protest organized by aggrieved students became bloody after some army officers were deployed to stop them from protesting.
Consequently, two students were shot, one on the head and the other on the leg. They are both receiving medical attention in a nearby hospital.
Benin-Auchi Road has at the moment been blocked following the protest.
Reacting to the development, however, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Edward Aihevbe, in a press statement debunked the report that two students were shot.
“No student was shot. They barricaded the highway and soldiers escorting an army vehicle that was passing the road had to shoot into the air to scare the students away.
“The senate condemned the actions of the student, the barricaded Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi highway and protest was unnecessary and uncalled for,” he said.
